CALIFORNIA CONGRESS OF REPUBLICANS

SUPPORT RECISION OF SALES TAX INCREASE
Resolution Adopted July 29, 2001 by
The California Congress Of Republicans Board Of Directors
WHEREAS The Republicans in the Legislature fought to
eliminate the pending 1/4 increase in the state sales tax,
AND
WHEREAS
Republican Legislators were able to at least get a modification
of the trigger that causes the implementation of the sales
tax increase but not its elimination, AND
WHEREAS
The sales tax increase is a $1.2 billion burden on the tax
payers of California, especially the low and moderate income
families, AND
WHEREAS
The diversion of these highway funds has created a backlog
of new road construction and maintenance of the existing system,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED That the Board of Directors of
the California Congress of Republicans urges Governor Davis
to rescind the sales tax increase and instead cut both unneeded
programs and unfilled state jobs, AND
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED That this Resolution be presented
as a Resolution of this body at the next California Republican
Party Convention for their consideration and adoption and
place a copy of this Resolution in the official CCR Book of
Resolutions.
