RESOLUTION
01/7-1
CALIFORNIA CONGRESS OF REPUBLICANS
Board of Directors
MIDDLE-EAST PEACE
Resolution Adopted July 29, 2001 by
The California Congress Of Republicans Board Of Directors
WHEREAS America has traditionally acted as a mediator
in Middle East peace initiatives, and is being asked by both
sides to do so again, AND
WHEREAS
Middle East peace depends upon a sincere, honorable commitment
by Israelis, Arabs and the U.S. government, acting as truly
honest and statesmen like, with support from the United Nations,
AND
WHEREAS
The lives of Americans, Israelis and Arabs are in constant
jeopardy because of a perception that our Middle East policy
has not been even-handed, AND
WHEREAS
We recognize that both sides have legitimate claims to exist
as independent, secure states, with elected governments, and
that such claims are based on religious, moral and historical
principles,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED That the CCR calls upon the
Bush Administration and Congress to make every effort to consider
the legitimate claims of both sides, and to do so without
regard to threats or pressures from lobbyists or foreign governments,
AND
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED That the CCR Joins the Bush Administration
and Secretary of State Powell in endorsing the Mitchell Report,
which calls for an end to the violence and an end to illegal
settlements, and that U.S. taxpayer dollars be directed, not
to military aid, but even handed economic aid which would
enhance prosperity, job development and basic human rights
for all; and that both sides be strongly urged to stop the
violence, and if violence persists, illegal settlements continue,
and attacks on innocent civilians are not controlled, then
American aid will be cut, AND
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED That the California Congress of Republicans
send a copy of this Resolution to all California Republicans
in Congress, to the Department of State, to the press, and
that this Resolution be presented as a Resolution of this
body at the next California Republican Party Convention for
their consideration and adoption and place a copy of this
Resolution in the official CCR Book of Resolutions.
